Plessey are proud to announce that following an internal survey completed by employees, St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth has been chosen as their charity of the year.
Founded in 1982, St Luke’s Hospice provide specialist end of life care for over 3,500 people each year across Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall. The hospice has a community nursing team that travel throughout the region, caring for people in their own homes; a hospital team that ensures patients admitted to Derriford Hospital receive expert advice, as well as a purpose-built 12-bed specialist unit where patients stay for bespoke pain relief.
With only part funding from the government, St Luke’s rely heavily on the support of the local community to raise the £4 million a year it takes to help the people in desperate need of their services.
In a bid to raise as much money as possible for the charity, Plessey will be organising a variety of events throughout the year from bake sales to sponsored walks, in addition to participating in events organised by St Luke’s including the Midnight Walk, Tour De Moor, and Plymouth 10K.
Sam Langridge, Marketing Manager, commented:
“This is the first year that we have initiated a company-wide voting system allowing Plessey employees to vote for a charity to support for the upcoming year, which is not an easy task, as every charity is a worthy cause. We are delighted that by popular demand, St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth were chosen. A fantastic charity who provide such vital care and support for the local community.
After a recent visit to the specialist unit, the inspirational, moving and incredible support that St Luke’s provide was immediately clear. We are looking forward to raising as much money as we can for the hospice, as every £1 raised makes a difference”.
Nicola Keen, Corporate Fundraiser, commented:
“St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth are delighted to be partnered with Plessey during their first ever charity partnership. It is wonderful to see how passionate the team are and want to support us over the next 12 months. St Luke’s are more than end of life care providers, we try and help create those lasting memories when time is short and trying to break down those taboos talking about death and dying.
Charity partners for us are more than fundraising it’s also about the relationship, the information and education we can share on our services which are vital in our community.”
